It took me about an hour at JoAnn's to pick out the fabric. I was torn between another green and white fabric that had a cool pattern to it. I did like the other fabric better but this fabric went alot better with what I already have in my living room. Once I finished covering the chair I knew I had made the right decision. And best of all Brandon liked it too!

Brandon and I had so much fun last weekend down in Colorado Springs. Our first stop was Garden of the Gods. Then we drove down the road into Manitou Springs which is a little town right up against the mountain Pikes Peak. It was a great little town with lots to do. We didn't even have time to go into the Cave of the Winds or see the Cliff Dwellings. But we did get to walk around the town and try the mineral fountains.

We went to someones house for Thanksgiving so all I really had to do was bring a side dish. I made Emeril's(Almost every new savory recipe I try durring the holidays is Emeril's) green bean cassourole and it was so good. I made homemade onion strings for the top which were surprisingly really easy to make, and the inside has fresh green beans and cream of mushroom soup mixed with gouda cheese. It was so delicious. And those are a peach and rassberry cider that are locally made here in Colorado, they were good too.

So my sister Julie gave me the recipe for this cake which she got off a blog and it was soooooo good. It has some fresh lemon juice which I subbed for lemon extract, lemon zest, fresh blueberries and zucchini. It was so moist and flavorful, I ended up not even making the cream cheese frosting that was supposed to go on it. It only took me about 3 days to eat most of it. I have been running daily for like the past two weeks and I know that eating this cake kinda ruined that, but I don't eveb care cause it was so worth it!

I finally found a frame that fits my wrapping paper that I bought from Paper Source! And today on our bikeride Brandon and I found two more trees just busting with apples. We knocked on the doors and the people living there were more than happy to let us have some. Today Brandon and I visited Mt. Vernon which was George Washington's estate. It was really hot and because my legs look so disgusting from all the bug bites I have been getting I had to wear jeans. So besides feeling like I was melting all day, Brandon and I really enjoyed walking around Mt. Vernon. We got to tour the entire grounds and inside of the home. Brandon and I loved how colorful the paint in the rooms were, and how each room had its own color at that. I think that thier bedroom was my favorite. They even had his orginal bed in there still. I think that this was one of my favorite places that we visited. The home was so beautiful andit is right on the Patomic river so the views are really great.

Finally Brandon and I got to spend an entire day in DC along the National Mall visitind all of the memorials and seeing the White House. Once we got off the train the White House was right there. From what I saw on the map I thought it would be further away. So we were standing in front of it wondering "Is this it"? Once we realized it was indeed the White House we got really excited and started takigng pictures. It was smaller than I thought, and is literally right in the middle of everything. It was so wierd look and at it and thinking about how old it was and how all our presidents had lived there. After that we went and saw all the memorials and the Washington Monument. I think that the WWII memorial was my favorite along with the Lincoln memorial. Also, the weather was perfect. It wasn't humid, it was somewhat cloudy, and there was a nice breez for most of the day. Then we ended the day by eating at Potenza which was recommended by our nieghbor and friend Jenn in denver. Delicious!

Diamond in the Rough

Since Brandon had the day off today we decided to go back into DC to tour the SPY museum. I think the tickets to get in were a bit overpriced but we enjoyed non the less. While looking on a map last night to see exactly where the museum was located I just happened to see that there was a cupcake shop just down the street. Sure enough we hit it up on our way back to the metro. I totally forgot to take picture of the actual cupcakes. The were pretty average size and cost 3.24 each. The flavors we got were smores, red velvet, van, and key lime. The smores was a total rip. A somewhat dry chocolate cupcake with a weird marshmellowy frosting with grahmcracker sprinkled on top. Brandon got the Vanilla cupcake cake because the frosting and cake had vanilla bean in it. Brandon said it was "nothing special". Spot on. The key lime had this weird coolwhip, but a little thicker, frosting on top of lime cake. It is very suspicious to have coolwhip like frosting not melt in 90 degree weather, what do they put in that stuff!? And then there was the redvelevet. Thank goodness this one was good. The cream cheese frosting was okay but the cake part was even better. I hate when people take a white cake mix, dye it red, and add like a teaspoon off cocoa and think that'll taste good. Redvelevet's redvelvet(ha), had a dark red cake that actually tasted good. But with your store named that your redvelevet better be good.

It was so amazing to be in DC for the fourth of July. I absolutely love early American history so of course it felt so special to me to be in our nations capitol on Sunday. We sat across from DC on the water at Bolling Airforce Base. We had dinner there on base outside and then watched the DC firework show on the Potomac River. It was so perfect, that is until we got swarmed by mosquitoes.

Part 1 of Cupcake Tour

Yeah!!! I was so excited to finally be going on my DC cupcake tour. First on out shop, Baked and Wired. We took the metro into GW(which Brandon loved because that was the college he had wanted to go to) and starting walking around Georgetown. Oh it was so cute! There were lots of great shops, places to eat, and cute little houses up every street. After about a mile of walking we arrived at our first cupcake shop. The display was so cute and they had lots of other baked goods besides cupcakes. There granola bars and pie looked so good. They also had a great selection of cupcakes, great flavor combos. I ended up picking van/straw and Elvis. The Elvis was good, but not as good as Violets which has the best Elvis ever. Brandon loved the banana cake with peanut butter frosting. The straw/van was really good too. The vanilla cake had pieces of strawberry and the frosting was strawberry too. This place was definitely the best out of all four cupcake shops. The cupcakes were also very big and I felt worth the $3.85 they cost. If I get the opportunity to go there again I definitely will.

Part 2 of Cupcake Tour

The 2nd cupcake shop we tried was Georgetown Cupcakes, OVERRATED! Now they were only $2.75(which was good cause they were small) and they did have a good menu to choose from, BUT they weren't very good. And to top it off they're getting a show on TLC that starts this month. Totally overrated. The flavors I got were keylime, choc/Van, and Choc choc chip. The choc frosting in the choc choc chip was like this weird soft fudge consistency and it wasn't sweet enough. The choc with van frosting tasted like it had cream cheese frosting, so I don't know what was going on there. And the keylime was okay. This place was the Dots of the DC. So what did I learn from this 2nd shop? Great location, cute shop, cute looking cupcakes, and butt tasting cupcakes equals great buisness and a show on TLC.

Part 3 of Cupcake Tour

After walking around Georgetown Brandon and I walked about a mile over to Dupont Circle. Dupont Circle was a neat part of town that seemed to be very diverse with lots of restuarants. While there we stopped off at our 3rd cupcake shop on our list. Happy Cakes was my second favorite out of the four we visited today. The cupcakes were pretty good and the way they looked reminded me of Lovely Confections. The frosting was good(Except that Brandon thought it was a bit gritty, and I think he was right) but the cake lacked flavor. But the people working there were very nice.

Part 4 of Cupcake Tour

So this was the last part of our cupcake tour. The 4th and last cupcakes shop we wanted to visit was called Cake Love. I have looked at there website before and just kinda had a feeling that they wouldn't be that great. So with my expectations pretty low we walked from Dupont Circle through Embassy row to U street. Well I was right about it not being that great. The inside of the shop was kinda awkward and the cupcakes didn't look all that great. I got a carrot cupcake and didn't like it that much. It had raisins which I hate, and the pieces of carrot were like long strings in the cupcake. But our next stop on U street more than made up for the bad cupcake. For lunch we decided to eat at Ben's Chili Bowl just a couple of blocks away( and right across from the metro thank goodness). It reminded me of Tommy's Burgers in Cali. We got a dog and burger and potato salad and shared it all. It was really good! So full from our lunch(and starting to come down from our sugar highs), walking on the sides of our feet(not so smart to walk like 5 miles in flip flops) we hobbled over to the metro across the street and headed home.

Fords Theatre

This was the first place we went to in DC. Brandon and I went into town to grab some lunch and we heppen to run right into it. We toured the inside of the Ford theatre and the home across the street where Lincoln died. It was so amazing to see.

Annapolis

Oh what a cute little town. These pictures don't even do it justice. Brandon and I spent a couple of hrs here on Saturday walking around sightseeing and watching some of the world cup. We walked around the harbor area and toured the Naval Academy which was so pretty. All of the houses were like three story side by side historic landmarks. And the streets were really narrow with cobblestone roads. The city was so charming and has so much history in it. It was really hot though. Oh man was it hot. The humidity is what kills you. In weather like this you just have to except that you feel hot and uncomfortable and move on.

Plane Tickets

Well I finally felt somewhat productive today. Brandon and I finally booked our tickets home for Jamie's wedding in September on it wasn't over $400(still expensive but not as bad as I thought it would be), and I got my samples in from a place that I want to start ordering my paper and envelopes from. It was nice to cross two things off my checklist. I am also excited that I am finally starting to get my card stuff in order. I have been so fustrated with Michaels lately and decided that I needed to not be dependent on that store for supplies anymore. So yay for me!

Fun by the Beach

So even though even though everything is pretty remote where we are there is North Beach just 15 minutes from us. No one really swims in the water and the sand is only in small patches, pretty much just what you see in the pictures. The rest is all cliffs around here. But North beach is really small and cute. This was Friday at the farmers market. The baked goods I got were so good!

My Garden

Last September I planted a really small lettus garden which never ended up growing because we had that huge three day snow storm in early October. I just assumed that the seeds died and I was intending to cover the spot back up with grass. But about a month ago I noticed that some stuff that didnt look like a weed was growing. Then I saw more and realized it was my lettus growing. I think I planted like five different kinds. I have been watering it and it has been growing in nicely. It is so exciting to have my own lettus.

Emily, I can definitely give you some competition when it comes to being in your so called "prime" and really feeling like your 40. I take three pills a day; one a day, fish oil, and vit D. Then I drink 2 cups of a liver cleansing tea that has a some spiced brewed in it. And lately i have been taking walk for excersize, WALKS people! I remember thinking when I was younger that if you weren't going to go runnign then there was no use in doing any other kind of excersizing because it would just be useless. Oh ya and I start to get tired around 10:30pm and could fall asleep that early if I didnt have to stay up doing things. The pictures are of my old lady pills and seeds that I have to boil in my tea that I drink twice a day cause I have fatty liver.

This is the first time I have ever planted pansies or snapdragons and I love them. I wish I had money to buy more flowers, I just had so much fun planting them. Spring Fever

I have spring fever(except for today because it is snowing). I have been lucky enough to find flowers on sale at our super market for like $2. I also have the prettiest Daffodils I didn't take a picture of from my nieghbor. And outside I planted organic Chamomile and organic Chives. Chamomile helps anyting in the onion family grow. So I thought they would go great together. also, the chives get really pretty purple flowers and the chamomile looks like tiny little white daisies. I am so excited for spring. I wish I had my own house so that I could plant a real garden. My one pot garden will have to do for now.

Dishu's Drug Habbit

I got some catnip the other day from whole foods because I wanted to make some cat toys for Prince and Dishu. I went to Whole foods because you can wiegh out the amount of herbs you want and they charge you by pound.. So that bag I got was only 22 cents. Anyways, when I got home I let Dishu sniff it. Big mistake! Like 10 seconds later he was off with a squirel tail chasing prince and attacking me. And he kept trying to get back into it by jumping on our coffee table where I had it. So I finally moved it to the kitchen counter. Well later that night when I was in on the computer Dishu comes walking into the room with it all over his back. I went into the kitchen and found that he had found the catnip. I think he kinda overdoused on it cause the rest of the night he sat on a towel I had on the floor by the front doos and stared at the ground. Stoner!!!

No Good Mexican Food In Denver

Brandon and I have discovered that are no good Mexican restuarants in Denver. We have tried like five or six now but they are all pretty much the same. Bland or spicy enchilada sauce and taco bell style hard shell tacos with that gross wet ground beef. Even the place in Eagle Rock by the Super A is way better than any of these places. So I just ocntinue to make my own mexican food at home. This is a picture of the last place we tried. The picture makes it look way better than it was. You also can't tell from the picture but the enchilada was really skinny and the tamale was so spicy I didn't finish it. See the hard shell taco?!?!?!?!?

My New Friend Lily

Lily is the eldery dog that lives across the street. She is so cute and we have become good friends. Brandon and I watched her for like a week about a month ago and we really bonded. She is so sweet and loves it when I take her on walkes. Her fluffy white furr is so soft. She is my new little buddy.

Brandon and I have been trying to go to the humane society at least one a month to volunteer with the animals. January we walked the dogs, so this month we wanted to play with the cats. The cats were so adorable and there was even a little kitten in there. I haven't held a kitten in the longest time so I was in heaven. We had so much fun there on Monday. I took a picture of one of the cats we really liked.

A Most Exciting Dinner!

Tonight I made a dinner that I really loved. I think it had to do with the fact that it was so colorful and pretty, and that there were tons of sweet potatoes in it. If your interested here's how I made it.
1. Roast cubed sweet potatoes, carrots(I found cool yellow, orange, and red one at the store), and one small red onion. Toss in olive oil, salt pepper, and fresh thyme first. Roast for about 45 mins at like 375 or 400 degrees.
2. Saute 2 cloved minced garlic, 1 peeled and cubed zucchini, garbonzo beans, and salt, pepper, paprika, and a little cayenne on a med to low heat. After about 15 mins I added the chicken stock, whole weet couscous and more salt.After that was done I topped it with my roasted vegetables and some chopped parsley.
3. I also cut up a piece of whole wheat pita bread, tossed it in olive oil, sprinkled with salt, pepper, and paprika and cooked at like 410 degrees for about 12 mins.

This meal was inspired by a really good frozen Kashi meal I had that was a vegetable lasagne, DELICIOUS!

The Zoo

Brandon and I went to the Denver Zoo for the first time on Monday. It was so nice because hardly anyone was there. It was like we had the Zoo to ourselves!

My New Bedspread

For Christmas Brandon and I got a bunch of Target gift cards which was great. So we decided to get ourselves a new bedspread. The one we had had gotten a rip on the side Brandon used and we called it the hole. At night Brandon would wake up and say that he was in the hole again and couldn't get out. I had it on my side once and it was pretty annoying. You would find half of yourself caught in between the blanket and the cover and then when you tried to get out you would here a loud rip from the hole getting bigger. So anyways this is the one I got. I didn't really care what it looked and Brandon really liked this one( I think because it was called the snowboarding something online). It is a little masculine for me but oh well. But it is really funny when Dishu sits on it cause he totally gets camouflaged into it. So cute.

Xmas In LA

Well I unfortunitly didn't take pictures like I had planned to when Brandon and I went down to LA for Christmas break. I only have pictures from Elizabeths baptism. It was a real adventure flying with our cats. I will try to up load the video I have of Dishu in the cat carrier in the airport. He pretty much lost his mind on the way home and ripped a hole through the carrier with his teeth. Next year I think we'll drive. We had a really good time and enjoyed seeing all of our family. We wished we could have spent more time with everyone but there is only so much you can squeeze into 10 days.

This is my favorite time of year and one of the things I love most about Christmas is decorating and wrapping Christmas presents. Last year I got some stuff on clearance at Target to use for wrapping this year. I also made a bunch of tags ans these cute holidat clips for presents. I am having so much fun wrapping presents!

I finally gave into fake flowers as you can see on my side table. I fot them on sale for like 2 bucks along with my wreath on my door. The picture of the pumpkins was before some animal took a big hunk out of the side of the small orange one. Looks like Dishu's not the only wiesel in the nieghborhood!
